Bio: NM Pete Karagianis
National Master Pete Karagianis was born in Peoria, Illinois, but has since played rated chess tournaments in 37 of the 50 United States. He is currently pursuing his FIDE Master title and resides in Phoenix, Arizona. He runs and maintains the chess_underground and his other chief passions include reading and writing various forms of literature as well as playing both soccer and basketball. He earned his National Master certificate in 2005 while attending Iowa State University. Pete is available for online or in-person lessons. He offers online lessons on the Internet Chess Club (www.chessclub.com) and "Chess-Live" (www.chesshall.org) servers. In-person lessons are available in the Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, and surrounding areas by appointment. Contact Karagianis@gmail.com to arrange lesson details.
NM Karagianis, or "Coach K," is an experienced Chess Instructor in both the camp, club lecture, classroom, or one-on-one setting. His scholastic students have competed successfully in national and local tournaments. His adult students range from the rating of 800 to expert strength and one even managed to place highly at the HB Global Chess Challenge in May of 2005.
He has founded several clubs and camps, including the Peoria Academy Chess Camp, which is still held every summer at Peoria Academy, and the Frederiksen Court Chess Club, in Ames, Iowa, which produced a State Championship-winning team in 2002. You can currently find him participating in clubs across the Phoenix area, including the Valley Chess Club (http://www.valleychess.org/) and the Chess Emporium Action events (www.chessemporium.com).
